Faculty advisors Mrs. Jamie Krogh and Mr. Joshua Adams accompanied the Fork Union Military Academy Robotics Team to competition in northern Virginia this past weekend, which Mrs. Krogh describes as "an exciting and nail-biting event." The team competed in five qualifying matches throughout the day and at the end of the day were ranked 12th overall, a significant improvement over previous results for the young team. Their performance, determination, and demeanor did not go unnoticed and following the qualifying rounds they were selected by the #1 and #2 ranked teams to partner with them in the elimination rounds. The team went undefeated in the elimination round and they participated in the highest scoring match of the day, helping to ensure their team's victory, and securing their qualification for the state competition to be held in February.
One of the highlights of the day was that the cadets had the opportunity to watch a live stream of the Christmas Tournament on Mrs. Krogh's cell phone and were able to witness the Fork Union postgraduate basketball team's hard-fought win over Hargrave, a victory that had a great motivational effect on the team as they continued their own competition day.
Congratulations go to those on the Robotics team: Zimu Li, Michael Hershey, Ryan McEnroe, Zach Williams, and Kyusuk Oh. Also, special thanks go to Mrs. Krogh, Mr. Joshua Adams, and to Robert Adams (Josh’s father) who helped support the team all day, either helping solve robot issues or cheering the team on.
