Wrestlers honored at Winter Athletics Awards ceremony this week

At this week's Winter Athletics Awards ceremony held in Wicker Chapel, wrestling head coach Dean Hall honored his top wrestlers and award recipients for the season. 

 

Cadet Cameron Hunter Wheelhouse was recognized by the head coach of the wrestling team, Dean Hall, at the 2016-2017 Winter Athletics Awards ceremony this week as the recipient of the Most Outstanding Wrestler Award this season. In addition, he was recognized for earning All-State Honors.

"Cameron deserved to be named our MVP because he was reliable, worked hard, and finished strong," said head wrestling coach Dean Hall. "He wrestled his best, and could be counted on for bunus points when the team needed them most."

Cadet Wheelhouse, a senior, is from the household of Mr. Richard Wheelhouse, Sr. in South Chesterfield, Virginia. He has attended Fork Union Military Academy since September 2015 when he enrolled as a junior.

 

Cadet Jacob Judah Marks was recognized by the head coach of the wrestling team, Dean Hall, at the 2016-2017 Winter Athletics Awards ceremony this week as the recipient of the Coaches Award this season. In addition, he was recognized for earning All-State Honors.

"Jacob earned the Coaches Award because he never complained, tried his best, stayed out of trouble, and exemplified the positive traits needed to succeed," explains wrestling head coach Dean Hall. "He was a team player, and always put others before himself."

Cadet Marks, a senior, is the son of Ginger Marks of Palmyra, Virginia. He has attended Fork Union Military Academy since August 2014 when he enrolled as a sophomore.

 

Cadet Timothy Bolton was recognized by the head coach of the wrestling team, Dean Hall, at the 2016-2017 Winter Athletics Awards ceremony this week as the recipient of the Captain's Award this season, an honor he shared jointly with teammate Corey Jameson. In addition, Bolton was recognized for earning All-State Honors.

Wrestling head coach Dean Hall described his reasons for selecting these wrestlers for the award, saying, "Tim and Corey won Captain's Awards because, throughout the season, they helped lead, organize, and push the team as a unit, and as a family, to be the best they could, and to uphold the values we hold true in the program and at Fork Union Military Academy."

Cadet Bolton, a senior, is the son of Fred Bolton of Mechanicsville, Virginia and Carol Bolton of Glen Allen, Virginia. He has attended Fork Union Military Academy since August 2013 when he enrolled as a freshman.

 

Cadet Corey Owen Jameson was recognized by the head coach of the wrestling team, Dean Hall, at the 2016-2017 Winter Athletics Awards ceremony this week as the recipient of the Captain's Award this season, an honor he shared jointly with teammate Timothy Bolton. In addition, Jameson was recognized for earning All-State Honors.

Cadet Jameson, a senior, is the son of Philip and Sarah Jameson of Seaford, Virginia. He has attended Fork Union Military Academy since December 2014 when he enrolled as a sophomore.

 

Cadet Zion Christoffer Phifer was recognized by the head coach of the wrestling team, Dean Hall, at the 2016-2017 Winter Athletics Awards ceremony this week as the recipient of All-Virginia Prep League Honors this season. In addition, he was recognized for earning All-State Honors.

Cadet Phifer, a junior, is the son of Jeffrey Phifer and Sylivia Smith-Phifer of Charlotte, North Carolina. He has attended Fork Union Military Academy since August 2016 when he enrolled as a junior.

 

Cadet Jonathan Javier Muniz was recognized by the head coach of the wrestling team, Dean Hall, at the 2016-2017 Winter Athletics Awards ceremony this week as the recipient of All-Virginia Prep League Honors this season. In addition, he was recognized for earning All-State Honors.

Cadet Muniz, a junior, is the son of Ms. Nassly Sales of Jersey City, New Jersey. He has attended Fork Union Military Academy since August 2013 when he enrolled as a freshman.

 

Cadet Alec Schlink was recognized by the head coach of the wrestling team, Dean Hall, at the 2016-2017 Winter Athletics Awards ceremony this week as the recipient of All-State Honors this season.

Cadet Schlink, a junior, is the son of Gail Schlink of Cranston, Rhode Island, and Steven Schlink of Powhatan, Virginia. He has attended Fork Union Military Academy since October 2016 when he enrolled as a junior.
