Fork Union Military Academy congratulates Ms. Jen Schnelle for being named Teacher of the Term 2 of the 2021-2022 academic year. Cadets submit nominations for the Teacher of the Term at the conclusion of each grading term. The cadet nominations are reviewed and evaluated by the Teacher of the Term/Year Committee, which is comprised of non-academic staff members. After considering cadet nominations, the Committee announces the Teacher of the Term.
Ms. Schnelle is in her third year at the Academy and taught creative writing during Term 2. She is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin with a Bachelor of Science degree in English and Zoology and later received her Master of Teaching in English Secondary Education from the University of Virginia.
Outside of the classroom, Ms. Schnelle assists with class scheduling primarily for eight-grade cadets and helps with the yearbook.
Ms. Schnelle received nominations that stated:
"She has gone out of her way to adapt her teaching to our needs. She has made the class extra fun by making projects based off all our interests in the class. This class has been super fun and informative, which makes me enjoy showing up to class each day."
"I went from having decent writing skills to having amazing writing skills. She has gotten me into reading books again. The class day is fun, and she always makes the lesson interesting."
"I am nominating Ms. Schnelle because she always makes class enjoyable and entertaining. She gives many interesting assignments including, campaign planning and writing prompts that interest us. We sometimes play mini games that we relate to creative writing by writing about them and using the weekly grammar topic."
"She is a very nice and a kind teacher."
